Safety Checks for the
optimum maintenance of your car Checking your Tyres The two things to check for on your tyres is the tread and inflation. The legal minimum tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm but this is the absolute minimum and it is recommended that tyres are replaced at about 2mm. Your tyres should have a tyre wear indicator located along the seam of the tyre. When the tyre surrounding this nodule approaches the same level it is recommended that the tyre is replaced. However, There may be excessive wear on other parts of the tyre that is not indicated. This is why it is best to take your car to a garage for this type of check. Most garages offer this service for free (like us!) so don't hesitate to do so if you are unsure. Don't forget to get your spare tyre checked also. Do also check your tyres regularly for splits and bulges.
